All about our digital story. The synopsis, the origin of The Coffee Panda, and the masterminds behind the project

PROJECT

This seems interesting. What is this project about exactly?

Our digital story, '#CoffeeRMIT' is a social media project that promotes and celebrates coffee's intangible values among the student's community at RMIT University. It specifically focuses on the significant diversity of the coffee's world, and its role of being a common favourite beverage, connecting people across cultures. It is done through the use of videos (short interviews) and promotion strategies.

Did you say short videos?

Our concept would be shown in a VIDEO (approximately 1.5 minutes long), in addition to various short interviews in a simple yet powerful approach. Coffee lovers from different countries across the campus will be sharing their favourite coffee types, elegantly displaying the diversity of both cultural backgrounds and coffee's recipes. Meanwhile, the hashtag #coffeermit is subtlely introduced by the end of the video, encouraging viewers to use this hashtag to share their coffees to everyone else.

Great idea! What are you planning to achieve?

The message of the film is, to inspires and motivates the audience to share their coffee on social media platforms through the use of the hashtag, not only as a contribution to a public collection of coffee specialties, but also as a gateway to reach out and connect with fellow students who share the same interest. In today's society, coffee lovers often overlook the importance of the drink by the rush of everyday life. Therefore, it is a great way for them to learn by looking at how many people are loving coffee just as much as they do. At the same time, they might discover some new coffee recipes from different cultures that they did not know before.

Why Melbourne? Why RMIT University?

Melbourne has a long history of coffee culture, as it is the most important cultural indicator throughout the city's history. It attracts coffee lovers from different countries who come here to enjoy, so they might have countless intriguing coffee stories to tell. RMIT University is located at a central location of a diversed coffee culture. Thus, the project 'Coffee RMIT' based on this privileged location to offer alternative communication platform for RMIT's coffee lovers to exchange and express their personal feelings, interests, and stories about coffee with media.

COFFEE PANDA

Coffee Panda, who exactly are you and what is your role in this project?

As you can probably tell, I am an animated spirit animal who represents the project 'Coffee RMIT' as the symbol of coffee-loving. I am here only to spread the joy, happiness and endless love for coffee to RMIT students. I am also on various social media platforms where you can easily connect with me. For more detailed reasoning about the creation of me, go to RESEARCH.

Where are you from Coffee Panda? Just for immigration check.

I am actually just a fictional animated character, who only exists in the virtual world of internet and social media, so technically I'm not residing in any country's borders. However, I can tell you that I was born by my parents - my creator's creativity and their love for coffee.

How did that end up as a panda anyway?

I sometimes overheard my parents saying that I was a "happy mistake", no matter what that means. But I assume that they picked a panda because the animal was globally recognized as a symbol of cultural diversity and anti-racism. I assume you have probably seen the infamous meme I am referring to. If not I've already attached it in this message. In addition to that, 'The Coffee Panda' sounds like a better version of 'The Kungfu Panda', so I guess that's how I was born. Plus, most importantly though, who doesn't like pandas anyway? Come on, it's panda, the cutest animal on earth.
